"Mustafaluigi" (mustafaluigi)

So the other day my girlfriend and I were walking through a parking lot when I spotted a 930 911. I brought up the crazy price inflation of the 911 and how that car can hit 6 figures and up. It was a brief conversation and I figured she was just nodding her head because I was talking about cars again. The next day we were back at the stores (yay Christmas shopping!!!) and we found a spot and as she was pulling it she noticed the 944 and freaked out thinking Porsche=omfgexpesnsive. I chuckled and explained that no, its a different car and that you can actually pick them up pretty cheap and now that the 911 is impossible to get I wonder how the prices will start to go up on the 944. She asked how much you can get one for and when I said that its possible to get one under 10k, her eyes got big and started going on about how if thats the case she would want one. I said well you can get them in Auto and she said nooooo, if shes gonna get a Porsche shes gonna learn how to drive a manual. Sooo here's where I need your help.
Looking for a Turbo, Turbo S or a S2 in decent condition, manual trans in the mid east coast region. Help me find a car you bargain hunters. When your girl starts asking for a manual trans old Porsche, you find her a god damn Porsche.

Did she like the 944 specifically, or just the idea of a cheaper Porsche? And was it the Porsche handling or the Porsche badge-cachet that attracted her?
There's a lot to be said for a good 944, but there are other possible options too. How does she like a first-gen Boxster, for example?
Ooh, and you don't see many of these around:

It's still a 914, though.

MARRY HER YOU DUMBASS, OR SOMEONE ELSE WILL.
Go watch the engagement video with the Mini. Do something similar. (Basically, guy's girl wanted a classic Mini. He bought it, put it in a storage unit. Friends all in on it. Takes her to storage unit. Opens it, she freaks. Turns around and he's on his knee.)
Congrats, dude.

Nothing says "life-long commitment" like an unreliable mid-80s German sports car!
Unless you count the debt incurred keeping it running. Like diamonds, that'll last forever <3
...great, now I'm thinking of what I'd want instead of a silly ring. I already have a 4.0L

Why get her one ring, when you can get her four?

I would not go Turbo fot this, NA is plenty of power. Less to go wrong, easier to work on yourself, and she'll be just as happy either way.
Simplify, then add lightness.

That's why I like the S2. Big NA motor but turbo looks and suspension.

I think the idea of a good looking accessible Porsche that has the chance to go up in value. She liked the sportiness of it. I would be the one driving and working on it and I've always wanted a 944. Something about them, the wide fenders the raked back look.

Trust me, if a college kid like me can afford one and actually own one(which I do), they are not going to go up in value for a LONG time.

oh, Nibby...
They will still want the ring. Big house, cars, fancy stuff, kids, doesn't matter. They still want the ring....
Even when they don't.

This.
The main problem is that the 944 doesn't have either a unique look or the classic porsche shape. There were too many really cheap cars with the same design in the early 90s and late 80s for the 944 to be recognizable as a porsche unless you are really in the know.

Mine doesn't want the ring for fears of a freak de-gloving injury.

So she's paranoid? Or is it a legitimate concern for her in life?
and remember having and wearing are two different things.

My bad, must've missed the call for your survey of literally every woman on the planet, but here are my responses:
Big house? Meh, not even Michigan football season tickets the way they've been playing.
Fancy stuff? LOL
Cars? Um, doesn't everyone here want cars? Yes please, motorcycles too. Luckily I have a nice job that affords me the luxury of buying my own.
Kids? FUCK NO. I enjoy my money, free time, day drinking, and I work too damn hard for this body to put myself through the horrors of pregnancy and childbirth.
Ring? NYET. Especially after Travis's update on degloving, ugh.
Also, fuck deBeers.

Not true entirely. I believe the 944 has a rather classic 80s like to it. It shares similar design cues(many actually) with contemporaries, the Camaro, RX-7(totally stole the 924 and 944's design), but it does have other features that makes it stand out properly.
We have to remember more than 200,000 cars were produced of 924/944/968 combined, the "reliability issues"(It's not unreliable dammit) that everyone thinks about first, and how many aren't in the best of shape now.
When the car population goes down, and the best ones survive, then the price should go up.

You are one of the guys regardless of gender. And the nice thing about generalized comments is there can be exceptions.
Nice play on the big house. Go Irish.
Ready for an adventure!

I've been married for 25 years. When she asks for a Porsche, you get her a Porsche. And enjoy the ride ;-)
